Hey sisters! Hope everyone is having a fabulous week! I (Heather) am writing Today to tell you about my journey from being a brunette to the drastically different shade I am now, platinum blonde. If you're like us, you love to change your hair on a whim or add some type of flare to your do'. I had always wanted to be blonde and one day had the courage to just go to the beauty store and buy hair bleach and a bottle of blonde hair dye. I did not think that it would take as long to get to platinum which is what I was going for. The first time I bleach and dyed my locks, it turned out orange-ish.
I decided to keep it that way for about a week to allow my hair time to rest before adding more chemical to it. I did not mind it so much, but definitely was excited to get the platinum shade I was going for. After another session of bleaching, I was exactly where I wanted to be!
Now with my new hair came new hair drama! Split ends, dry and damaged, no longer silky hair. I never knew how much upkeep I would have to do to try and keep my hair healthy. That's when I started experimenting with differnt hair products. I've tried every type of hot oil and deep conditioner imaginable. I want to share with you a few of my favorite products to keep your newly bleached or dyed hair as healthy as possible.
My #1 rule-Do a hot oil treatment 2 days after each color treatment. My top 2 favorite products to use include olive oil and jojoba oil. You can find single tubes at most beauty stores for under $2.00! Trust me, it does a wonderful job of reviving your hair in the days following a fresh color treatment.
My #2 rule-Use a specialized color treated shampoo and conditioner for about a week or so after any bleach or dye job. Personally, I only do it for about a week after I touch up my roots, then I go back to my regular favorite shampoo or conditioner Herbal Essences. My favorite Shampoo/conditioner for specialty treated colored hair is Quantum 1 Moisturzing Shampoo for Permed and Color Treated hair. It moisturizes my hair and gives it that natural softness that is hard to obtain when adding any chemicals to your hair.
My rule #3-Always use some type of silk protection spray or polish when using any hair appliance, such as blowdyers, straighteners, or curling irons. It helps add moisture to your hair when heat is applied to it and leaves it looking silky and smooth! My favorite is Biosilk!
